Nando’s ads – tacky, but effective?
You’ve got to hand it to the guys at The Sphere Agency – they’ve managed to make Nando’s chicken synonymous with both tack and celebrity.
Don’t get me wrong, that wasn’t actually meant as an insult. After all, who doesn’t enjoy hearing about the latest salacious gossip about the Britney Spears media circus, or watching a clip of Bruno’s crotch landing on top of rapper Eminem during the MTV Movie Awards.
The agency’s cinema ad for Nando’s features the image of former AFL star and self styled “million dollar man” Warwick Capper, wearing tight leopard print trunks. It aired during the premier of New Moon to promote its new Tropico burger.
I agree tacky as all hell – but does it work? Was in there the other day and only a handful of people ordered the new burger. They did a stupid viral ad with Capper which is on their site. They have all of their past ads on their website.

I must say i got rolled with this Capper viral….. and ended up downloading the Free Tropical Voucher and ordered it. I’ve had four burgers since. So i reckon it must be working cause everytime i’ve been in theres ques and it takes me 1/2 hour to get my order
All their ads were dumb….
…except the Nandos fix gum featuring the stripper. That was good.
I think all their ads are pretty funny to be honest… shocking at times yes, but always funny.
Not sure seeing warwick in his leopard print smugglers is the most appetizing image i’ve ever seen … but i had a good giggle nonetheless.
I like to portugasm idea though
Thank you George Betsis and VCD, good to see these guys are continuing your legacy on Nando’s
The best part of this story is hearing the presenter from ‘This Afternoon’ say NanDOS. Muy caliente, chica.
