Narrative Communications opens Sydney office to support national clients, Sophie Mullen appointed to lead

Narrative Communications has expanded its presence with a new Sydney base led by Sophie Mullen.

The announcement:

Strategic public relations and communications agency, Narrative Communications, has officially launched a Sydney base, marking a significant milestone in the agency’s growth by allowing it to meet the demands of its national clients.

The launch of a second office is part of a broader growth strategy led by principal, Lahra Carey, who will be based between Melbourne and Sydney. Carey said the addition of dedicated Sydney resources will enable Narrative to strengthen its presence in the Australian market.

The Sydney office will be led by newly appointed Sydney director, Sophie Mullen, who has recently relocated from London. Mullen brings more than eight years’ experience across corporate communications, reputation management, and issues and crisis management. Her experience spans a range of sectors including technology, infrastructure, and financial services.

“Opening a Sydney base is a natural next step for Narrative. We already work with clients across Australia, so having a physical presence in Sydney allows us to strengthen those relationships, attract new partnerships, and continue delivering strategic, high-impact communications support at scale,” Carey said.

Carey added, “With Sophie’s addition as Sydney director, we’re building a team that brings deep expertise, global perspective, and strong local insight for all client needs.”

In her new role, Mullen will work closely with both Narrative and its sister agency, NewsFlash Media, in its pursuit of new opportunities across corporate and strategic communications, reputation management, crisis advisory, and executive media training.

“Narrative has built a strong reputation for thoughtful, strategic work with clients across Australia and opening a Sydney office reflects the next phase of that work,” Mullen said. “I’m incredibly excited to be building a team of local experts who will help our clients navigate complex communications challenges.”

Prior to joining Narrative, Mullen held senior corporate communications roles for Deliveroo in the UK and Ireland and advised high-profile clients during her tenure at Hanbury Strategy and Burson.

Mullen follows a family legacy in public relations, with her grandfather Laurie Kerr, a pioneer of the industry and founder of International Public Relations, one of Australia’s first international communications consultancy.

Narrative is the specialist PR and strategic communications agency within Assembled Group, and services clients across a wide range of sectors including technology, property, start-ups and scale-ups, financial services, retail, health, and more. Its Sydney base officially opened for business in February 2026.
