New government ad campaign accused of ‘blatant political advertising’
A new Federal Government advertising campaign is drawing criticism for “blatantly political advertising” amid suggestions that it may breach the rules around publicly funded government advertising.

The TV commercial, which features the Federal Government’s “Plan for Australian Jobs”, promotes Government attempts to “ensure companies give Aussie suppliers a fair go”, “keep jobs here and not overseas,” and “help small businesses grow, which means more jobs.” The ad concludes with the line: “A plan for Australian jobs. Australia works: let’s keep it that way.”
Advertising commentator Rowan Dean, formerly executive creative director for Euro RSCG (now Havas Worldwide), yesterday told Radio 2UE’s Jason Morrison that the advertising campaign was a skirting requirements that government advertisements be information.
I saw the advertisement this morning and actually enjoyed it. Something Julia should have be doing from the word go – crafting a plausible narrative that illustrates what the Government is doing.
Nice ad, but will it appeal to the 840 000 VirginVoters?
Sick the Labour Spin Machine – being paid for by us, believed by know one. It as if there is a parallel universe where manufacturing is thriving and where the Government has a vision. There is no plausible reality, let alone narrative Rudd and Labour have moved back in to full spin machine mode.
That’s just it – is may be an enjoyable ad to watch but it has no bearing whatsoever on the reality of what the Gov’t is doing – nothing!
This type of advertising should be banned 12 months out from an election, it is blatant propaganda, by an increasingly desperate government. It would have been approved by Gillard, it has no reason for existence, and little strategy except to say nice things about the government. Notice that the government advertising has been cranked up in the last few weeks, more of our money promoting the Labor party.
