News and current affairs help Seven to a Friday night TV win

Seven has taken a total audience TV win on a quiet Friday night, with a network share of 28.8%, in front of Nine’s 27.7%. Seven News at 6pm topped the key advertising demographics of 18-49s and 25-54s and attracted 770,000 metro viewers. Seven News at 6:30pm, which airs as Today Tonight in some markets, drew 736,000 metro viewers.

At 8:30pm Seven aired a repeat of Catching Milat, the documentary surrounding the investigation of serial killer Ivan Milat who passed away last Sunday following a long illness. Part one of the documentary received 205,000 metro viewers and part two, which ran until midnight, attracted 200,000 metro viewers.

Seven’s primary channel share for the night was 18.3%. In national numbers, Seven News reached 1.21m viewers and Catching Milat drew 335,000 for its first alf and 315,000 for the second.
