News bulletins top week’s ratings while ABC News channel attracts record audience share

TV audiences turned back towards news programming as the coronavirus emergency worsened through the week, ratings from OzTam reveal.

The thirst for news saw the ABC News channel attract some of the biggest audience share in its history.

Unusually, the four most watched TV programs of the last seven days were all news bulletins, with last Sunday’s Seven News averaging 1.381m metro viewers, just ahead of Nine News Sunday which rated 1.264m.

Seven News bulletins were also in third and fourth slots in the all-people demographic too.
