Nine adds former Foxtel CEO to board

One of the country’s most experienced executives will be joining the Nine Entertainment board.
Peter Tonagh was formerly CEO at Foxtel, REA Group, and News Corp Australia, and most recent sat as deputy chair of the ABC – a job he stepped away from at the end of last month.
Before his fourteen years at News Corp, Tonogh spent fifteen years with The Boston Consulting Group, working across Australia and New Zealand and throughout Asia.
Tonagh will juggle the board of directors position with his other roles as the non-executive chairman of Bill Identity, GTN, and ACT Capital, non-executive director of The Quantium Group, and chairman of Bus Stop Films – a not-for-profit organisation supporting inclusion in the film and television industry.
Nine Chair Catherine West said of his appointment: “With his extensive career in media, and in data and digital businesses, I am confident Peter will prove a valuable addition to the Nine board, not only for Nine’s contemporary business but also for our strategic aspirations for the future.”
Tonagh said he is “excited about Nine’s leading position in the industry – about the powerful suite of assets it controls, and the opportunities for those assets to further evolve and work effectively together.
“I look forward to working with the board and management to ensure shareholders benefit from the ongoing strength of Nine’s position.”
Tonagh was appointed to the ABC Board in May 2021, moving into deputy chair in November that year.
He stepped away from the job at the end of 2024, with ABC chair Kim Williams making his decision public on Christmas Eve, saying Tonagh had “made a valuable contribution to the effective running of the ABC”, and “provided invaluable leadership after accepting the role of Deputy Chair in November 2021.”
