Nine: Andrew Rochford may learn not to slag off decent people

andrew rochfordNine has described Andrew Rochford’s claims that the country’s current breakfast television is tired as “laughable”.

The comments from Rochford – who owes his media career to Nine – came at the launch for Ten’s 2012 season which saw him confirmed as one of the hosts of Breakfast. He told the event: “It’s going to bring a little bit of life into breakfast television. It’s getting a bit tired nowadays.”

The breakfast battle is currently a two horse race between Nine’s Today and Seven’s Sunrise. Sunrise has its nose in front although the gap has narrowed.

A spokesman for Nine told Mumbrella: “The good doctor’s remarks are dripping in laughable self interest. And this ‘The other networks are tired’ schlock is precisely the same spiel Ten fed you and general media before their much hyped changes to News early in the year, you will recall. And that it all ended in tears and sackings.”

He added: “Good luck to Andrew, but he might live to learn that it’s not a great start to be slagging decent people at Nine and Seven who are actually pretty good at what they do.”

Rochford’s break into the media came at Nine when he was a late entry to the second series of The Block. At the time he was a trainee doctor but winning the competition put him onto a path into the media. He ended up working on Nine shows including What’s Good For You, Amazing Medical Stories and Random Acts of Kindness.

He later switched allegiances to Ten as a regular on The 7PM Project and The Circle.
