Nine launching Washington DC bureau

Nine is leaning into the newsworthy madness coming out of the White House and launching a dedicated bureau in Washington DC, which the network boasts will be situated “just 300 metres from the Oval Office.”
The bureau will be staffed by Lauren Tomasi, who — as Nine’s Washington correspondent — will contribute coverage for Nine News, 60 Minutes, Today, and A Current Affair – as well as the network’s various digital platforms.
Tomasi comes across from Nine’s Los Angeles bureau, which has been established for over 40 years.
Tomasi joined Nine as a reporter and producer for Today in 2018, before joining the LA bureau in January, 2023. During her time as Nine’s US correspondent, she has covered mass shootings, natural disasters, terror attacks, and was the lynchpin of Nine’s recent US election coverage, crossing live from rallies and events.
“It is a tremendous honour to take up the role of Washington Correspondent with Nine,” Tomasi told Mumbrella on Tuesday morning.
“We are facing a pivotal moment in the world. The decisions being made at the White House have repercussions around the globe, and the expansion of our bureau to the US capital means Nine will continue to be at the forefront of every story.”
Tomasi said we live “a time when facts and context matters more than ever” and praised Nine’s “investment in journalism and this bureau”, calling it “a testament to our continued pursuit to bring the news direct from the source.”
Fiona Dear, Nine’s director of news and current affairs, said in a media release the bureau “takes our viewers to the doorstep of the White House and offers a front-row seat to the news and decision-making that is increasingly shaping our lives back home.”
“We are committed to bringing Australians the most comprehensive and insightful coverage of global affairs.”
The bureau will launch later this month.
