Nine’s AO draws in 522k metro viewers on Thursday amid calls for schedule change

The Australian Open’s day four evening play on Nine topped entertainment on Thursday night, with  522,000 metro viewers, amid calls from players to change the schedule as one match stretched until 4am today.

The night session on Thursday saw Alex De Minaur (Australia) playing against Adrian Mannarino (France), followed by Thanasi Kokkinakis (Australia) against Andy Murray (Great Britain). The latter finished at 4.05am on Friday after six hours.

Australian Open 2022’s day four coverage was aired to 886,000 metro viewers.

Nine Network took an overall win with a 37.1% share, followed by Seven with 26.7%, while ABC and Ten tied at 14%. Nine also celebrated a primary channel share win with 26.8%. The top-rated multi channel on Thursday was 7Two with a 4% share.

In terms of programs, the second highest ranking in entertainment was Australian Open’s night session 2, which drew in 482,000 metro viewers for Nine.

Home and Away on Seven brought in 456,000 metro audience, followed by the network’s The Chase Australia with 438,000 viewers.

Australian Open’s late and night pre-match session on Nine attracted 323,000 and 311,000 metro viewers respectively.

The #1 program on Thursday was Seven News which aired to 811,000 metro viewers, while Seven News at 6:30 had 796,000 metro viewers, and Nine News on 587,000. However, different night sessions of Australian Open split the win of three key advertising demos.

In the latest Daily Consolidated Total TV Report for 12 January, Seven News was the #1 program nationally across linear, with 1.27 million viewers, including 30,000 on BVOD nationally and an uplift of 2%.

The program with the biggest uplift was an episode of Seven’s Home and Away with an uplift of 33% and had a total of 937,000 viewers overall, and BVOD audience of 190,000 nationally.
