Optus looks to hardman Vinnie Jones to shut up the haters
As Optus continues the battle the backlash from its plans to drive football fans to one of its pay platforms to watch the English Premier League, the telco has turned to legendary football hardman Vinnie Jones to shut up the haters.
Even after announcing the first year of EPL would be free for Optus customers, fans of the sport continue to slam the telco for its tactics.
Optus has stood firm in the face of the onlsaught and is now returning fire with the social-led approach uploaded several days ago that features Jones telling fans he’s had “a little word”.

Clearly Optus didn’t listen to Vinnie, because nothing has changed has it.
If Vinnie was living in Australia and to be dictated to by the Yes men at Optus after stealing the World Game from the fans, I reckon they might listen a little more closely.
Hope you like hospital food Yes men…..
Vinnie should have said ” Do you guys like hospital food or what” then something would happen..
At the moment Optus is the ad equivalent of Celeb Bingo, roll them out and hope no-one notices the lack of substance. Poor marketing. Poor product. Disappointing.
The Optus “insert celebrity here” campaign approach is baffling as surely agencies like Emotive content know better. Emotive started with Ricky Gervais and now all the agency knows is to leverage influencers to sell a product. Nothing strategic about that.
No.
