Poster for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles September 11 film opening shows heroes plunging from New York skyscraper
A newly released poster for Paramount Pictures’ Australian release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on September 11 features an image of the heroes plummeting down the side of a New York skyscraper.

The poster, which was launched on Paramount Australia’s Twitter and Facebook pages this evening has drawn immediate criticism on social media for its similarity to images from the Twin Towers attack in New York of September 11 2001.
On both social media websites the poster for the film – set in New York – was uploaded with the comment: “Check out the official poster for #TMNT in cinemas September 11!” The poster also appears to show the top of the tower exploding.

It’s not uncommon for there to be multiple versions of a poster used, even within the one market, so let’s not draw too much from them using a different one to the US, as if it was deliberate, or something. That said, someone’s been clearly asleep at the wheel — the graphic designer who added the Aussie date to the generic poster; the social media person who was putting it up; and anyone else involved in the approval process along the way. None of them could put 2+2 together? Wow. Just wow.
On the other hand: It is nothing like the twin towers. Neither Michelangelo, Rafael nor Donatello actually look like they’re plummeting – they look in control. That’s an emotional word used in this context.
What’s wrong with the world, everyone got so serious and bitter… and needless to say stupid.
