Pedigree and Google launch app aimed at helping people find their lost dogs
The era of the lost dog poster may be over, with dog food brand Pedigree launching a new smartphone app designed to help people find their lost dogs.
The new app, called Found, has been created by New Zealand creative agency Colenso BBDO in conjunction with Google and allows dog owners to pre-register their pet.
If the dog is lost, the owner can use the app to send out a real time, geo-targeted message to people in the vicinity.
Leonid Sudakov, CMO, Mars Petcare said “Found goes to the heart of what we as a company want to do – help make the world a better place for dogs and dog owners alike.
It would be good if our smartphones could scan a micro chipped pet, so we could view the appropriate owners details.
Having had a dog lost, then found but held captive until police intervention saw him returned reluctantly by the “finder”, he’s now microchipped but also fitted with a GPS unit using 4G cell tower technology. (Unit is $180, GPS is $60/yr)
An app on my iPhone allowed me to track him, as well as send me a message if he has exceed the geo-fence the app creates. I can also share his details with friends to help track him down should he escape (beware firecracker night and NYE). App also lets me keep track of our walks how far we’ve travelled (using Google Maps) and data can be uploaded to Facebook, by choice.
