PETA hits out at ARN for ‘rejecting’ Melbourne Cup cruelty ad
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has issued a media release hitting out at the Australian Radio Network (ARN) for refusing to run its radio ad about the Melbourne Cup.
PETA said the ad was designed to get people thinking ahead of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, but said it was rejected for being “inappropriate”. ARN declined to comment on PETA’s claims.
Hello,
And it should have been rejected.
This is an outrageous generalisation and over simplification.
Yes, animal cruelty should never be tolerated
Yes, some people in horseracing have been cruel
There is a level of cruelty in all human/animal relationships.
If we want animals in our lives, we have to manage that level of cruelty
I am surprised PETA is going down this path after what happened in
U S last time
Regards
Gil
Your statements contradict each other.
ALL of the horses get whipped, not some. And studies show time and time again that the horses do feel a lot of pain from being whipped.
Money rules again.
Of course the [edited under Mumbrella’s comment policy] folk at ARN refuse to run it – they’re in cahoots with the bloody race organisers!
Was ARN approached for comment on this?
Hi Cynical Observer,
Thank you for your comment.
As stated in the article, ARN were approached for comment but declined to at this time. In cases like this, we always make the effort to allow both parties the right of reply.
Thanks,
