Regarding the TV ‘non-ratings’ summer season (for which of course we still have ratings), this is basically because Australia runs a ’40-week’ ratings season which is when most first-run programming debuts. I think you will find that this season is longer than both the UK and US markets from which we source much of our content.
Also, a little fact to ponder, there are only four TV markets in the world that span time zones – Australia, US, Canada and the CIS (i.e. Russia), so time-delaying live broadcasts and the issues that raises is something most markets don’t have to confront.
