A global study of news executives across dozens of countries revealed widespread negative sentiment regarding the future of news journalism and publishing.
The dismal assessment has been backed up by data showing Google search traffic to publishers plunging by third from 2024 to 2025 on the back of the AI explosion.
The “Journalism and Technology Trends and Predictions 2026” report was authored by Nic Newman, a founding member of BBC digital news and senior research associate at the Reuters Institute at Oxford University.
