Radio bosses explain why a few bad surveys aren’t enough to pull a show
The fifth radio ratings survey for the year marks a positive turn of events for some. For others, it could’ve been better. But as Mumbrella’s Zoe Samios explains, consistency is key.
Radio ratings day can be unforgiving to talent, producers and programmers. Eight times a year the metro and national programs are put under the microscope by advertisers, rivals and the trade press.
And when the numbers begin to slide in the wrong direction, the gut instinct for any radio programming boss would be to make changes. But is it better to wait and watch, or abruptly pull the plug?
Seems like the discussion around the Perth market is always left out on these articles.
I’m with Duncan, 2day Breakfast is dead by December 5. It has to be. If they believe they have the right music format, go with that and just spin sick tunes. Breakfast shows don’t work on 2day anymore. Sad.
the 18-24 win by WSFM in Sydney makes no sense whatsoever. Basically, according to the survey, thousands of 18-24’s moved from the younger sister station KISS to the older WSFM. WSFM is a 40+ station A good one but not in the 18-24’s demo. When i saw the results, i was convinced someone got the KISS and WS results the wrong way around.
Surely the major reason you can’t make decisions n the basis of a single survey is the margin of error is so large due to such a small sample. CRA loves to quote their annual sample but on a monthly basis it is relatively small.
