Radio ratings: Jonesy and Amanda claim top FM breakfast in Sydney from Kyle and Jackie O
WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda have taken the number one FM radio breakfast spot in Sydney from KiisFm duo Kyle Sandlands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, while talkback station 2GB continues its overall domination of the market as 2UE posted its worst ever share.
Brendan Jones and Amanda Kelleher tied for the number one spot with their fellow Australian Radio Network DJs Kyle and Jackie O in the first survey under the new system from GfK, before slipping behind them last time. However, today’s third survey shows they put on an impressive 1.8 per cent audience share taking them to 10 per cent, while the Kiis duo slipped 1.4 per cent to 9.5.
Troubled Southern Cross Austereo station 2DayFm got a slight lift Monday to Sunday with 4.5 per cent audience share, up 0.5 per cent, while its Breakfast with the Stars slipped back again to its lowest rating yet of 3.6 per cent. Sister station TripleM picked up some share, up 0.9 per cent to 5.9, whilst its breakfast show rose to 6.5 per cent.

I sincerely hope, but certainly doubt, Jonesy and Amanda are compensated for their success at a similar rate to their Kis colleagues.

I love Jonesy & Amanda in the morning and it’s refreshing that a program largely based on schoolboy smut, fart gags and Benny Hill-esque sexual innuendo rates so well. That said, it’s hardly brilliant (the music is godawful) and that probably says more about the parlous state of breakfast radio in Sydney than anything too much more. Or are the ‘kids’ simply not listening to breakfast radio anymore? It’s become the domain of the 40-pluses who want Benny Hill-esque sexual innuendo and ‘Jack And Dianne” on high rotation?
some really large movements here – KIIS down 13%, WS up 20+%, Smooth down more than 10% … small overall improve for 2Day but Breakfast down almost 20% for them.
So much for 2UE’s much-lauded new lineup, described as “the strongest in years” when announced last year. Not surprised that John Stanley and Garry Linnell are failing to make any impact – they’re at same level as the ill-fated Dicko and Sarah were when they got the chop from the breakfast slot on 2UE. I did expect Angela Catterns to make some inroads though. She doesn’t get much of a lead-in from Linnell and Stanley, which I’m sure doesn’t help. As for Kyle and Jackie O’s slippage: it is but one survey so too early to call it as a trend, but maybe, just maybe, their listeners are discovering that with Jonsey and Amanda, there’s somewhere they can enjoy some grown up fun and conversation.
Well done to Jonesy & Amanda, the most consistent breakfast show in the market. Also I think there will be a few people eating their words over the Tim Ross drive show, great show and great result. The next book will be very interesting will all the SCA show still be in the same slots and with the same talent combos?…me thinks not.

Glad to see Jonesy and Amanda getting recognised. Amanda has one of the quickest wits in the business and Jonesy is a good foil for her. having said THAT, I am now at the stage when Ballroom Bliss gets played I simply switch over to another station. The Sweet did do other songs?! Is someone getting a kickback on this wretched wornout track (which I USED to like!)?
