Ricky Gervais plans to go global with Dutch Barn Vodka as comedian takes aim at ‘hypocrites’ for banning TV ads

TV advertisements for Ricky Gervais’ Dutch Barn Vodka keep getting pulled from TV, but the comedian still has big plans for the drink brand.

Taking to an Instagram live video this week, the star behind iconic shows like The Office UK plugged some upcoming stand-up comedy shows where fans can get access to pre-sale tickets with a Dutch Barn subscription.

However, Gervais had to note that the vodka is not yet available anywhere else except the UK… for now.

“It’s only really in the UK… but we hope to make it a global brand,” he said.

Gervais then mentioned that advertisements for the beverage have continually been banned due to the actor repeatedly poking fun at the product and the alcohol industry.

“What would help is that I don’t keep getting banned from the TV with my adverts,” Gervais began.

“They told me all the rules. They even sent me a personal letter – because they thought ‘he’s going to be trouble’ – saying you mustn’t appeal to young people, you mustn’t say alcohol is good for you… so I went the other way and I started going ‘alcohol is really bad for you’… they went ‘no, you can’t say that. Even though it hasn’t broke the letter of the law, it’s broken the spirit.’

“What they mean is they don’t like my attitude. They don’t like that the fact that I’m a whistleblower.

“They’re just hypocrites, really.”
