Rommy’s golf credibility gulf
Welcome to day three of the 28 day torment of Panasonic.
If you’ve missed an episode, Campaign Palace continues to insist that the pranks pulled in The 28 Day Torment of Rommy Gulla are genuine. They also continue to insist that in this he is a “role player” who happens to also be an actor. Not an actor who’s acting in this.
Clear? Good.
In today’s episode they pull a prank on him in which they fill all of his kitchen cupboards with golf balls.
Ok Romy gets home and goes straight to the kitchen as you can hear the front door open and close…lets agree he is looking for something to eat which is a normal thing to do.
He takes his bag off and puts it on the counter. Then, because he is probably hungry and wants food quickly he turns around and opens……. the cupboard under the sink? (WTF…that’s where we all keep food right, especially when we have lots of other cupboard space just like in this kitchen). Oh and it just happens that this was probably the only cupboard not rigged.What was he thinking of eating? Dishwashing soap and sponges?Totally staged. Also in the begining a guy can be heard saying, so it takes him 20 minutes to…..while pointing at a picture of the house? 20 minutes to what? Get in character so he can act suprised? This really is just a terrible campaign very poorly executed – made worse by the Palace still insisting the pranks are genuine and not staged.
All these events and Rommy hasn’t let out one swear word of surprise – or indeed any word.
I take it Dr Mumbo doesn’t like being lied to. It’s an ad campaign. I think the only people that care that they are being mislead are advertising bloggers. Most viewers will have a laugh and worry no more about it.
@ Derrick – who are “most people”? Take a look at the number of hits these videos are getting…the only people watching them are the advertising bloggers!
Another point that questions the authenticity (like we needed more…)…I am assuming this bloke is a bachelor living by himself. What kind of bachelor pad kitchen looks like that?! Lucky he washed up, dried and put away his cereal bowl and coffee mug that morning I guess.
…there ARE things on the draining board but what are they? A giant metal mixing bowl and some weird plastic stuff. This isn’t a house, it’s a meth lab!
I know this is all very nit-picky but it’s a lot more fun than doing the work I should actually be doing.

Stephen – to be fair, it does look like he mouths the words “f*&king a^%$holes” after the yellow powder stunt.

Totally staged. Not only is there nothing to indicate someone actually lives in this house (there’s barely any dust on top of the cupboards), they don’t even bother to show them emptying the cupboards of their usual contents to stash the balls – those cupboard shelves are brand new, no Vegemite rings or dead pantry moths. And in my house, if something falls out of one cupboard the others don’t all automatically open in sympathy.
I think this idea is great, but the execution is pretty bad. Obviously he’s an actor, there is no denying that (though campaign palace continue to counter that), he would have had to go through a casting process and been signed off by the client. But hiring an actor doesnt mean you can’t at least be genuine with your prank attempts and not stage them. I bet they had lawyers inform Rommy that once the golf balls leave the cupboard, dont move because you are more then likely to fall and smash your skull open on the bench, see how he doesn’t move AT ALL once they fall down? in come the cleaners 5 seconds later while he stands there for 20 more minutes.
End of the day though, the vast majority will believe it to be genuine. People still think viral videos such as Trent from Punchy are real. The only problem is that they’re beginning to be more privy to these fakes and it’s going to affect the agency’s who actually go for the real deal pr stunts in the long run.
and just looked at the facebook numbers… 28 individual videos for only 30,000 viewers… Hope campaign palace can justify whatever Panasonic is paying them.
Where did any food or equipment from his kitchen cupboards go?
Does the film crew leap out and say, “here’s all the food and mugs we took out of your cupboards – you’ll have to put them back in and clean up all the balls yourself”
Surely all those golf balls flying around would be a saftety issue!
Also, why did all the other cupboards open up when he opened up one?
And what’s with his (lack of) reaction? Viewers of these videos are obviously going to ‘think’ that these pranks are staged with those kind of reactions. But as JHG points out above:
