SBS maintain 2018 and 2022 World Cup broadcast rights
SBS has secured the rights to 2018 and 2022 Soccer World Cups.
Russia will host the 2018 World Cup, which means games will be broadcast at 10pm, 12am, 2am and 5am.
The 2022 World Cup will be hosted by Qatar, and similar broadcast times can be expected.
SBS’s Managing director Michael Ebeid said: “SBS has been the spiritual home of football for the last 30 years and this new deal with FIFA ensures that the greatest of all sporting events – the FIFA World Cup, will remain on SBS until at least 2022.”
Always wondered about this?
Worlds biggest sporting event & SBS?
Just doesn’t seem right?
Would have thought commercial FTA would have gobbled this up – spared us Les Murray.
Australian commercial channels are incapable of handling this event (9 in 2002 was pathetic). SBS’s coverage over the years has been as good or better than any in the world, so this is great news. Agree about Les Murray, though. He has driven the success, but I wish he’d do it behind the scenes.
