Screen Australia throws in $50k to boost Movie Extra Webfest winner’s production budget

movie_extra_webfest_logoScreen Australia has contributed an extra $50,000 to production costs for the winner of the second year of the Movie Extra Webfest.

The involvement of Screen Australia means the production budget for the winning web series has doubled to $100,000.

Mike Cowap, investment manager at Screen Australia said: “Webseries have fast become a great way for filmmakers to connect with a large audience and raise their profile. Through the initiative we hope to encourage exploration of the format, and the use of social media to build community around a piece of storytelling.”

With the announcement comes an extended competition entry date until November 23, with finalists revealed on December 2 and the winner announced five days later.
