Screen NSW CEO Tania Chambers resigns

CEO of Screen NSW, Tania Chambers will not renew her contract, leaving her position in mid-December, 2011, it was announced today.

After five years heading up the state funding agency, Ms Chambers will return to Perth for family reasons.

Director General NSW Trade and Investment, Mark Paterson made the announcement today. “Tania has been a passionate and successful advocate for the screen industry in NSW, driving a substantial increase in production – particularly local film and television production – in NSW, the implementation of the critical film friendly reforms and the return to NSW of key industry events such as the AFI Awards,” said Paterson.

“During her tenure at Screen NSW, a new strategic direction was set and new development and production guidelines shaped in consultation with the industry to encourage the best creative talent to work in NSW. She has established key partnerships across Government and industry, both within Australia and internationally.”

Ms Chambers led the Screen NSW’s contribution to the NSW economy through production expenditure from $45m from 22 projects over 2008-09 to $143m from 48 projects in 2010-11.

In a statement, Ms Chambers said, “It has been very rewarding to connect talented people across the sector and to watch the impressive screen productions Screen NSW has been thrilled to support. Leading an organisation like Screen NSW has shown me what magic can be achieved when creativity and culture combine with business acumen.”

In Chamber’s return to Perth, she will consider opportunities within the screen industry, not nationally and internationally.

Her position will be posted in the coming months.
