Selleys ad warns men: Dont leave your wife at home with a tradie
A new ad for DIY brand Selleys from BWM aims to tap into men’s fears of being cuckolded by a tradie while they are at work.
The ‘Do it yourself, before someone does it for you’ campaign – BWM’s first for Selleys – features a woman flirting with the tradie as he carries out household jobs.
Simon Hadfield, board account director at BWM, said: “The idea taps into a real insight around blokes putting off the odd jobs around the house. Their better half then loses patience and calls in a tradie.”
Stuart Sutherland, Selleys Marketing Director added: “We are looking forward to the new campaign as we believe it will appeal to both male and female DIY’ers as well as Tradies.”

How come the tradie doesn’t have his number up on the screen at the end? 🙁
Bogans love tradies.
Great work
Nice to see more sex on the television…. an affair or two – not a problem….?!…(should help the divorce rate?!…
Nice to see they’re assuming that the men are off at work while the women stay at home…haha some things never change!!
That’s a classic. I love it. Very clever. Now where can I get one…?
Gap Filler.
I’m sure that was an entirely unintentional double-entendre.
A similar idea was done by Euro RSCG for Mortein DIY pest extermination a coupla years ago. But this one does seem to totally base itself in rather sexist territory. Can’t women use Selley’s???
I wouldn’t mind if he hung out at my house when I’m at work…so long as he’s still there when I get home 😉
He can fill my gaps.
OMG. I think I giggle just like that when i see a tradesman at work.
Look out sellys you had better get plenty of stock on the shelves for this weekend, your product is going to walk out the door when the men of the house see this ad.
The tradesman looks a little smug. He obviously doesn’t realise his wife is at home flirting with a bloke wearing a pair of Selleys Hand Kleen Wipes.
love it! Nice to see some good ol’ traditional aussie humour making it’s way back into ads!!!
I’ll be the lone voice and say that I’m not impressed at all. I found the acting fairly weak and the woman didn’t strike me as relaxed and comfortable in the role. And, it is simple grouting/seal style work so, is she THAT useless that she can’t do it herself? I don’t usually buy into gender role things but I found the content of this ad OLD. You could go back to the 60’s and see similar ads (albeit without the minimal innuendo). Not that creative when all is said and done and borrowing from all the ‘hire a hubby’ style businesses also.
Not sure if actual tradies ever look quite that young and middle-class, but whatever. Decent ad.
Tradesman don’t use Selleys, it’s crap!!
The Tradesman’s rule of thumb: “If you can buy it in Bunning’s, don’t use it…”
(Probably why they are targeting homeowners…)
I’m with Susan – I can’t believe that Selley’s and BWM apparently think I’d be so useless as to not be able to use a caulking gun.
… But I will admit to being crap at using an apostrophe correctly. *Selleys
Nicely done.
I just checked Selleys website. Not a mention of this product. Maybe all their staff are home doing all the Jobs 2B Done before the tradies get there. 🙂
Susie, Susie. Well spotted.
The sassy little sweetheart isnt meant to be relaxed.
She’s FLIRTING!!!!
and a great job too.
I wouldnt mind taking my tools round to her house.
