Seven sells its community sports streaming platform

Seven West Media has sold its local and junior sports streaming platform Streamer to Sideline Sport.

Sideline Sport launched in 2023, and specialises in streaming grassroots sport. It currently airs NSW Rugby Union, Netball NSW’s premier league, races from Motorcycling NSW, Basketball Victoria, and sport from the Catholic School system and NSW Combined Independent Schools.

The acquisition of Streamer will add up to 10,000 extra matches each year to Sideline’s network. Streamer coverage includes AFL Europe, Perth Football League, Hockey WA, Australian Baseball League, Sydney Women’s Rugby, and Little Athletics NSW.

Sideline Sport CEO Glen McGoldrick said in an announcement: “The addition of the Streamer business supports the company’s strategy to achieve scale in a fast-growing broadcast segment.

“Streamer has a great catalogue of community sports including AFL, football and athletics which fit naturally into Sideline’s business.

“This is an area that has seen significant growth in recent years, as community sporting organisations recognise the value of streaming to drive audience engagement, participation and membership.

“It also creates access to new revenue streams that were not previously available, helping clubs to invest in equipment, facilities and long-term sustainability.”

Streamer will continue to operate under its established brand, with Sideline Sport bringing its technology capability and commercial operations to “further enhance and grow the business”.

Streamer is the first property Southern Cross Media has sold since the merger of Seven West Media and SCA in January.
