Seven wins final ratings week of the year thanks to cricket test

Seven has secured a victory in the final week of the calendar year, winning the ratings week with a 22.4% share for its primary channel.

Seven’s programming slate this week has been dominated by the third test between Australia and India. It has also screened numerous matches from the shorter-form Big Bash League.

The most-watched session of the Test cricket was session three of day one, which attracted 858,000 metro viewers and 382,000 in the regions.

Despite the success of the cricket, the most-watched program of the week went to Nine, with Melbourne’s Carols by Candlelight attracting 1.020m metro viewers and 1.404m across the country on Christmas Eve.

Seven’s Carols in the Domain last week screened further away from Christmas and had significantly less viewers – 612,000 metro viewers and 919,000 nationally.

Nine’s primary channel share for the week was 20.0%. Its network share – 29.9% – was also slightly behind Seven’s 32.5%.

It was also another week where the ABC beat Ten, with the national broadcaster securing 11.7% for its primary channel and 17.2% across the network. Ten had 7.4% and 13.1%.

SBS rounded out the week with 4.3% for its primary channel and 7.2% for the network.

The most-watched multi-channel was 9Go, also with 4.3% of the audience.
