Simon Lee lands at Enigma in newly-created role

Following news of his departure from The Hallway last week, Simon Lee has landed at full-service indie agency Enigma as its new chief creative officer and partner.
After an “exhaustive” six-month executive search process, Enigma has appointed Lee to the newly-created role. He will take on the creative helm of the agency’s team across Sydney, Newcastle, and Brisbane.
He becomes the agency’s first-ever CCO, and first leader to join as a partner.
Prior to Enigma, Lee spent 15 years with indie creative agency The Hallway. He announced his departure last week, saying he was “immensely proud” of what he achieved with the team.
The creation of the new role is “a testament to the clout” Lee brings, according to the agency.
“Simon’s appointment is indicative of the scale of our creative ambition and our commitment to achieving it,” said Lisa Sutton Gardner, founder and director of Enigma.
“His breadth and depth of experience, unique creative voice and proven commercial and leadership acumen mean that our clients, and our people are in very good hands. I’m very excited about the extent of what I’m confident we’ll achieve together.”
Lee said with the industry and client business changing at an ever-increasing pace, it’s essential to keep evolving the definition of what “great creativity” means, and Enigma’s approach to this was a drawcard.
“This is a key factor that has attracted me to Enigma – the opportunity to shape a creative offering that’s grounded in timeless truth, but connects with the relevance of right here, right now,” he said.
“And as an integrated creative and media agency with a 30-year track record of delivering strong commercial outcomes for its clients, Enigma has the scale and pedigree to deliver on this. The agency feels like a tinderbox that’s primed to catch fire, and I’m excited at the prospect of helping to spark the flames.”
Lee’s appointment follows last week’s announcement of Justin Ladmore and Amy Dascanio’s promotions to chief media officer and manager director, Enigma media, respectively.
It also follows the appointment of Joanne Lilley as Sydney’s managing director, also announced in February.
