SmoothFM uses 80s crooners Spandau Ballet in latest marketing push
British band Spandau Ballet play in a woman’s living room in a new campaign for SmoothFM aimed at highlighting the station’s “relaxing” music proposition.
The ad by Big Red is set to air from this Sunday on pay-TV and digital channels, shows a woman getting out of the shower and turning on her radio to the station which is playing the song ‘True’. When she is dressed and leaving she walks through her living room where the band is playing live.
Tony Thomas, Nova Entertainment chief digital and marketing officer said: “SmoothFM’s success is due to it playing a unique role in the busy lives of Australians and this TVC, along with the endorsement from such an amazing artist like Spandau Ballet, showcases the brands benefit beautifully.”The New Romantics band also recently launched the station’s experiential live music brand “A Night With”, and their hit singles regularly feature on smoothfm’s playlist, making the group a natural choice to front the new campaign.
It is the second in a series that began with Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” TVC to launch the station in May 2012.
Spandau Ballet’s latest album “The Story – The Very Best Of” is currently on sale and the band will tour around Australia in May 2015.
I like it. Tony Hadley still looks good for old chap!!
That is actually a good idea horribly executed.
Could have been so much better.
As my kids say: ‘Smooth FM, for people who have just given up’.
its refreshing to see a radio station take an idea led approach to their creative. Most of their ads are ‘insert Talent plus music plus brand here’
It made me smile and positioned the brand well
Tick
No talent in Australia to use? Sad.
Poor drummers. Never get a look in.
Just right.
and yes listener, it is sad that there is no Aussie talent out there.
If this is ‘True’ then it could make SmoothFM ‘Gold’.
hahha – nice!
