Spotify hires Kate Vale to run sales ahead of ANZ launch
Spotify, a popular music-streaming service that is about to launch in Australia and New Zealand, has appointed former Google executive Kate Vale as head of sales.
According to her Linkedin profile, Vale is already in place as sales director for Australia and New Zealand and is looking to recruit more sales staff.
Vale was previously head of YouTube, Australia and New Zealand and head of sales and operations at Google Australia and New Zealand. She is also listed on Linkedin as a director at Loopster Media, a company that helps brands managed their Facebook profiles.
Spotify, which was founded in Sweden but is headquartered in the UK, charges a low monthly fee for unlimited access to a catalogue of 15m songs.
I wonder what they need sales people to sell? its a subscription model..right? or are they hunting advertisers?
I love Spotify, but whatever happened to Sony/Universal’s Ripple?
Come on Kate, launch as soon as possible please.
@JB if you take the free version then you have some ads thrown in. Pay and you don’t. Pay more and you can synch to your phone and play offline.
Kate has had a great career with some big names… great to see her moving to a relative unknown. Fortune favours the brave.

Spotify is about as unknown as Google was 9 years ago. It’s set to be huge.
