State of Origin scores one of Nine’s biggest wins

Wednesday’s final State of Origin match scored the largest metro audience of the three games for Nine and the network won 38 per cent of the free to air audience share along with the top five shows of the night, OzTAM ratings indicate.

Over 2.5m viewers tuned in as Queensland secured a victory of 12-10 over NSW compared with 2.235m for the previous game, which faced the competition of Kevin Rudd’s return to lead the Labor party and secured 33.2 per cent of the nightly audience for Nine. The first State of Origin game this year had 2.43m viewers.

Last night’s play included the disruption of a streaker three minutes before the end. Pre-match coverage brought in 1.768m viewers for Nine and the main game had a metro audience of 2.586m in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. Post-match coverage had an audience of 1.335m, accounting for the top three programs of the night.

Nine News was the third most popular show with 1.343m viewers across the five capital cities and The Block drew 1.343m, preliminary overnight ratings show.
