Sunrise wins first day of post-Mel ratings battle

Sunrise hosts David Koch and Samantha Armytage

Sunrise squeaked a win over Today in Samantha Armytage’s first day in the hosting chair after Friday’s departure of Mel Doyle.

Thanks to its loyal audiences in Perth and Adelaide, the Seven show finished ahead of its Nine rival despite losing in Sydney and Brisbane and having an absolute dead heat in Melbourne.

According to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM, Sunrise won across the five capital cities by 364,000 viewers to 338,000, but Today took the east coast bragging rights.
