Ten slumps to 10.3% weekly share as I Will Survive repeats drive away Saturday audience
Troubled Ten’s week from hell ended with the network hitting on of its lowest audience shares in history – finishing with a free to air share of just 10.3%, fourth behind ABC1.
Last week saw the axing of Everybody Dance Now, a disappointing debut for I Will Survive and the resignation of programming director David Mott.
According to share figures from OzTam, Seven won the week. Week 34 channel share:
- Seven – 23.7%
- Nine – 22%
- ABC1 – 13.7%
- Ten – 10.3%
On Saturday, Ten suffered an even worse performance – delivering a share of just 6.5%. The network rebroadcast the first two episodes of I Will Survive, which rated just 187,000 and 208,000 – remarkably poor figures even for a low rating Saturday night.
Feel sorry for the sales staff, never fun trying to sell a broken down donkey. Can imagine the phone ringing non-stop for makegoods.
I’m such a sucker for ratings death stories.
Oh dear…..is Warburton next to go?
It is astonishing to read how fast Ten has fallen under the so called Leadership of Murdoch and Warburton.
The worst ratings and revenue results since 1991, and that was coming out of receivership. Shall be fascinating to see next months revenue share and the year end profit ?
When will these guys be held to account.
Insider – If Ten fires the new CEO with less than a year under his belt then yeah, they are truly stupid.

8 months into a new gig after 8 months gardening leave to think over what decisions are required is more than enough isn’t it? Shows only seem to get 3 -4 weeks and they cost more than the CEO (just sayin)
JW had to be across the production including the look and feel of these new shows and had to be part of the team that OK’d them to air, that’s the big problem if you ask me.
Th real issue is who you would get to replace as a) who has the talent in the Aust market and b) it is now (unfortunately) a bit of a hospital pass.
I recall reading a story about TEN not interested in ratings for their breakfast show.
Maybe opinions have changed now that they are achieving devastating results throughout their programming schedule. Television is a figures game.
What a strange year it has been, It was going to be all Seven,then Nine brought in The Voice which blitzed the ratings. Celebrity Apprentice was not that good second time around,the show with K Fed bombed(cant even remember the name of the show). Then Nine had the Olympics which is a surefire ratings hit every four years. We have another three months. What will viewers watch. Ten has put their foot wrong many times this year.Nothing of note. Even Offspring does not really rate but has a huge following.
Slowly it will dawn on all facets of Media that continual improvement is not possible.
Of course the immediate reaction will be to sack.. the head of programming, the sales director, the sales teams etc etc.
In about 14 months, they will be raving on how much better they are doing year on year and the suckers in the industry will again be lapping it up and selling it to their clients.
Murdoch should resign, he presides over a network which has become a sick joke.
Gotta feel for Neil Shoebridge trying to spin this mess. I gave him 12 months when he took the gig. Stay tuned.
Classic case of some one who had media skills in print going into a broadcast enviroment. i think Murdoch thought it was in his blood. Dont think it is warbo’s fault but he is not as expereinced as the guy before him.
