Ten wins Melbourne Cup broadcast rights from Seven
Channel Ten has won the rights to the Melbourne Cup in a deal worth more than $100m, which will see the iconic race move from Seven after this year, Mumbrella understands.
The race is the first big sporting rights win for the network since it lost the Big Bash League cricket rights in April this year. Ten previously broadcast the Melbourne Cup between 1978 and 2001.
Seriously!
To suggest Ten snatched the Melbourne cup rights is a fantasy.
The truth is no other commercial network wanted the rights.
Ten million for the rights and another ten for production and other costs makes no economic sense.
I’ll be switching on Sky Channel and get race coverage without the ill-informed hype.
We didn’t suggest Ten snatched the Melbourne Cup rights, Leo. You may be thinking of another website.
racing.com is another channel
Thanks for clarifying Paul.
Let’s call it for what it is.Ten is paying outrageous money for sports the others don’t want.
I’ve heard they’re going to make a bid for the English Darts rights!
Calm down, Leo.
It is the single most-watched 10 minutes of TV in Australia every year.
Beats everything else by miles.
I will be watching Sky, ive seen their F1 coverage and i seriously dont want to watch Master Chef, Neighbours and co. while im trying to watch the races
