‘The recognition helped give us legitimacy’: Mumbrella Publish Awards first entry deadline fast approaching

The first entry deadline for the 2024 Mumbrella Publish Awards is fast approaching. Get your entries in by next Friday June 28, to avoid paying a late fee.

Now in its 28th year, the Mumbrella Publish Awards spotlight the industry’s best work in consumer, B2B and custom publishing across a variety of categories.

This year there are 26 categories available spanning editorial, sales, marketing, design, branded content, online, events, audio and more. This is your opportunity to benchmark yourself against the competition, throw your name in the hat and put your best work and people in front of our jury of senior industry leaders.

Last year, Man of Many took home three awards for Best Engagement Strategy, Website of the Year, and Publish Leader[s] of the Year.

Scott Purcell, co-founder of the men’s lifestyle publication, said winning at the awards was a “moment of immense pride”.

“Being proudly independent often means we feel like an underdog in the Australian market and despite being Australia’s largest men’s lifestyle media brand, it’s a fact that not many people know,” Purcell said.

“The recognition from the Publish Awards helped give us legitimacy and allowed us to shout our accolades from the rooftops.

“I’d encourage all publications, regardless of size, to enter and celebrate their team’s successes. It’s a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the past year’s achievements and continue striving for excellence.”

Youth publication Pedestrian Group took home two awards last year, for Branded Content Studio of the Year, and Designer of the Year – Maya Brasnovic.

Brasnovic, Pedestrian Group’s head of design, said: “Designers are often their own harshest critics. If you’re unsure about entering, set aside your doubts and showcase the incredible work you’ve done.

“Mumbrella Publish is an opportunity for our industry to share their unique points of view in this constantly evolving digital space, and get out of our own bubble.

“Winning Designer of the Year – and Branded Content Studio of the Year – recognised the balance of strategic, hard hours that go into ultimately producing fun, entertaining work and gave huge personal and team motivation.”

And Broadsheet Media took home Publishing Company of the Year, and was highly commended in two other categories – Brand of the Year and Branded Content Studio of the Year.

Sian Whitaker, general manager at the publisher, said: “We were deeply honoured to be named Publishing Company of the Year at the 2023 Mumbrella Publish Awards. This prestigious recognition, amidst tough competition, underscores our team’s dedication and excellence.

“It means a lot to our business and we thank Mumbrella and all our supporters for this incredible acknowledgment. We encourage other publishers to participate in these awards and showcase their outstanding work.”

Other winners included Guardian Australia, Urban List, Schwartz Media and The Local Project.

The first entry deadline is next Friday, June 28. Get your entries in by this date to avoid paying a $100 late fee.

The final deadline is July 5, and the shortlist will be announced on August 8.

The awards night will be held at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, on September 26.
