The Revenant beats Stars Wars at the box office while Goosebumps debuts with $2.8m

Leonardo Di Caprio’s new film The Revenant has beaten Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the first time since its release in December.

Last week the Di Caprio movie, which portrays the life of legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass and is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, grossed $3.59m compared with $2.988m for Star Wars, which also had more screens, with 421 compared with 255.

Meanwhile the debut of horror-meets-humour movie Goosebumps, starring Jack Black, drew $2.88m over the weekend.
