Box office: Robots swarm Australian cinemas

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has been knocked from the top of the national box office this week by The Wild Robot, which managed to take advantage of the school holidays to clear $1.96 million over the weekend, bringing its box office to $2.9 million in Australia.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice still managed to take a healthy $1.54 million to bring its total to $9.4 million, while Transformers One has taken $1.27 million to bring its total to $2.17 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine – in its ninth week of release – still managed to add another $653,000 to its mammoth $65.48 million Australian box office figures.

At number five was the Australian family movie Runt, taking $611,000 in its opening weekend, and sitting at $1.03 million with preview screenings included.

Elsewhere this week, Speak No Evil took $444,000, Harold and the Purple Crayon $319,000, and Demi Moore’s The Substance brought in $311,000 in its opening weekend.

It Ends With Us took $290,000 in its seventh week of release, while Alien: Romulus earned another $210,000 to bring its total box office to $9.86 million.
