Thinkerbell hires Cath King to lead its public relations arm
Thinkerbell’s push into the world of public relations has continued, with the full-service agency hiring Cath King as head thinker of earned media.
Last week Mumbrella revealed Thinkerbell had secured IAG’s consumer brands as its first stand-alone PR client.
King will be based in Sydney, alongside Georgie Cavanagh, who came across from Tribe last year to ramp up the agency’s PR efforts.
King’s career has spanned over 20 years, with Thinkerbell noting she started in PR at a time when media releases were faxed to journalists.
She previously worked with Thinkerbell co-founder Adam Ferrier during his time with Naked Communications. King joined Naked in 2012 as head of social and PR. She left at the tail end of 2014 to become general manager of The Conscience Organisation.
Margie Reid, managing partner of Thinkerbell, said the agency was pleased to have King on board.
“Her broad, yet PR-focused, career ensures we have a proven PR leading the team, but also someone who is able to understand how PR strategically integrates into the rest of the marketing mix,” Reid said. “Catherine is the embodiment of measured magic, being that perfect balance of a level head, with the ability to sprinkle some magic dust.”
King noted the impact Thinkerbell has had on the market since its inception in 2017.
“I’m so excited to be joining the Thinkerbell team. They’ve rocked the market and created a strong name for themselves in a short period of time. I look forward to leading the earned media offering and building on the strong foundations the company already has in the PR world.”
In addition to her Thinkerbell role, King will continue to work for the World Bank Group as a communications consultant, and lead creative think tank The Romantics.
