Triple J considering moving Hottest 100 countdown from Australia Day

Triple J is said to be in “serious talks” over the prospect of axing the Hottest 100 music countdown on Australia Day and moving it to a less sensitive date in the year.

According to Pedestrian TV, “multiple sources” have said ABC bosses are considering shifting the countdown from January 26 as pressure intensifies to respect the wishes of Indigenous communities.

Inclusion of the Hottest 100 countdown on Australia Day – or ‘Invasion Day’ as it is known to many – has long been as a controversial issue with Indigenous communities and organisations who insist it is insensitive and inflammatory to celebrate the occasion.
