Two and a Half Men nears 2.3m as Ashton Kutcher has his debut

The first episode to feature Ashton Kutcher instead of Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men was an enormous ratings win for Nine last night with the episode pulling in 2.293 million.

The episode at 8:33pm began with the funeral of Sheen’s character Charlie Harper and introduced Kutcher as Walden Schmidt, a billionaire who had stumbled into Harper’s home after trying to commit suicide by drowning after being dumped by his girlfriend. Harper was revealed to have died after slipping on a subway platform and getting hit by a train.

A repeat of Sheen’s final episode at 8:06 aired prior to Kutcher’s debut and pulled in 1.732 million according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam. Another repeat episode also aired at 7:35 and received 1.438 million.
