US comedy God Friended Me premieres on Seven with 528,000 metro viewers

The premiere of US comedy God Friended Me captured 528,000 metro viewers, contributing to a Monday night win for Seven.

Starring Brandon Micheal Hall, Violett Beane and Suraj Sharma, the series is centred around an atheist called Miles, whose life is turned on its head when he is friended by God on Facebook.

The program was beaten by Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention and ABC’s Four Corners, which had metro audiences of 623,000 and 590,000, but together with Seven’s earlier offering, Bride and Prejudice, Seven achieved a winning 20.6% share of audience.

Nationally, God Friended Me achieved a metro audience of 802,000 while Have you Been Paying Attention grew to 853,000 and Four Corners swelled to an audience of 882,000.

In the earlier time slot, Seven’s Bride and Prejudice was the most watched program, with a metro audience of 629,000 and a national audience of 916,000. The show placed second across the key advertising demographics – 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s – falling short to Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention.

Nine’s Family Food Fight averaged a metro audience of 401,000 while Ten’s Blind Date fell from 347,000 to 320,000 metro viewers. Nationally, the shows had an audience of 571,000 and 440,000.

Seven also nabbed a win in news and current affairs, with 942,000 tuning in to the 6pm news battle. Nine News’ metro audience was 851,000 at the same time.

The ABC’s most watched program was its news offering, with 634,000 metro viewers. Media Watch, which dedicated an episode to journalist fury over Daily Mail Australia, captured 521,000 metro viewers.

From a main channel perspective, ABC beat Nine, Ten and SBS with a 15.3% share. Nine’s share was 15%, Ten’s managed a 12% share and SBS’ share was 5.6%. From a network perspective. Seven Network’s share was 30.5%, Nine Network achieved a 23.8% share and ABC Network’s managed a 19.7% share. Network Ten and SBS Network’s shares were 18.1% and 17.9%.
