Vegemite – tastes like revenge?
What does Australia taste like? Is it an ice cold VB? A lukewarm meat pie bought from a 7/11 on the way home from an AFL game? Or is it a pub schnitty, drowning in gravy?
According to iconic Aussie spread Vegemite, one thing is for sure – Australia doesn’t taste soft, gentle or polite.
In a bold PR move, Unilever’s Marmite decided the Ashes was the best opportunity to try and convert Aussie cricket fans to the rival yeast extract spread. The ‘Marmy Army’ will be on deck at the cricket for the next six weeks, handing out jars of the brown stuff with the aim of turning a few tastebuds.
So good.
Going against the grain here, but the Marmite post is a bit cute and in good spirit, whereas Vegemite comes across as a bit wordy.
Presumably the real aim is to get coverage in the Australian media (as has happened); placing the ad in the Mirror alone wouldnt be my first choice for reaching the UK target market (e.g. The Sun and Daily Mail have far higher circulations, Sun has sporting fans covered).
