Volkswagen’s ‘too powerful for TV’ ad breaches road rules and deemed unsafe by Ad Standards
Volkswagen’s “too powerful for TV” ad, which aims to show the power of the Amarok V6 without breaking any advertising codes of conduct, has been deemed as “unsafe” by Ad Standards for depicting “driving which is reckless and would breach road rules”.
Despite particular scenes in the ad being intercepted with a director who demonstrates scenes he would like to film using miniature models, rendering and storyboards, Ad Standards said the ad still depicted a “realistic image of a vehicle in a regional area overtaking a road train”.
Until before I saw this TVC I would have said the least most responsible ad I had ever seen, ever, would have been the Carlton ‘the only tap a man needs to touch’ ?.
Despite this outrage, your comments section will probably be uninundated.
Whatever. Liked the ad.
Bait taken, the double overtaking was guaranteed a bite. WV has got a ban it needed and the free publicly that goes with it.
Part 2 of the plot is to re-cut the ad and the banned scene will invisibly be amplified and discussed every time it is played.
Fake emissions and manipulations like this, apparent oil pump design failure and ECU failure burst the German engineering myth.
Oh my… we are such a nanny state! How can you possibly take exception to the use of a toy car in an ad when we happily, repeatededly and openly advertise gambling at every hour of the day, on any channel you can poke a stick at!
The ad was / is great. Deliberately planned PR or otherwise!
Folks won’t learn any more about reckless driving in this ad than they would on any video game, movie or sitcom… ?
