‘We wanted to deliver an experience Australia had never seen before’: Stan breaking ‘new ground’ with Olympics coverage
Stan’s coverage of the 2024 Olympics has not only been a huge win for Australian viewers, but the streamer as well.
Within a matter of days of Paris 2024 launching, Stan Sport scored its best-ever results; outperforming its previous highest daily minutes streamed record by a massive 24%. And it’s only gotten better since.
Speaking to Mumbrella, Stan CEO Martin Kugeler revealed that while day one saw a 24% uplift on its biggest viewing day, day two saw another 30% increase on top of that.
“Our ambition was with the Olympics to really break new grounds,” Kugeler said.
If just dumping four hours of unedited content per discipline on an app from another supplier is breaking new ground, then stan has knocked it out of the park.
Stan is streets ahead of 9 on this. Just being able to sit and watch a sport with no over-the-top Australian commentators is brilliant.
The scale of coverage if fantastic however scrolling through 4 hours of a replay to find one event is painful…could’ve used markers for key moments.
I love tuning into a sport on Stan only to be treated with a live webcam from the corner of the stadium. Truly fantastic coverage.
