World Cup cricket final becomes most watched show of the year delivering Nine 40.6% share
Last night’s Cricket World Cup final became the most watched show of the year so far with 2.223m metro viewers tuning in to Nine for the second session to see Australia defeat New Zealand by seven wickets to take home the team’s fifth world title.
The first session of the match also delivered bumper ratings for Nine, watched by 1.886m, with 933,000 metro viewers tuning in for the pre-match broadcast. It was been the most-watched event of the year so far, out-rating the Asian Cup final which was watched by 1.081m and the Australian Open final which grabbed a metro audience of 2.008m.
Session two was also the most-watched show across all the demographics.
The match saw Nine easily win the night with a commanding audience share of 40.6 per cent, compared to Seven’s share of 13.8 per cent.
Great business decision on the F1 GP. Audience cut by almost half!
Given that the ratings year just started, it is a big call to say it was the most watched show of the year! so far
Hi Georgia,
As the headline says it has become the most watched show of the year, and the words “so far” are also there in the first paragraph.
It’ll be interesting to see how many shows can top it this year though.

Love the fact the two best teams played in the final but the attitude of the Australian team to New Zealand during the match left a lot to be desired. Not played in a sportsman’s spirit sadly, and a bad example to young players watching.
