Return of The X Factor wins Monday night

The first episode of Seven’s The X Factor received top billing on Monday night with a five-city metro audience of 1.319 million.

The talent show, which included judges Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian, Mel B and Natalie Bassingthwaighte was number one in Sydney and Melbourne but was behind Seven News in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.

The 7PM Project, Ten’s most-watched show, had an audience of just 804,000 despite featuring a “world exclusive first-ever TV interview” with ex-Guantanamo Bay inmate David Hicks. The ABC’s Australian Story will tonight be centred on Hicks.
