Re-edited Youfoodz ‘forking’ ad triggers fresh round of complaints

Forking
An attempt by home delivery brand Youfoodz to get its banned ad back on air has triggered 170 complaints to the Ad Standards Board about the new version.
The original ad featured a boy imitating fiery TV chef Gordon Ramsay saying “how long do you think this took me to cook? One? Try two forking minutes… Un-forking believable”.
Youfoodz is now airing a re-edited version of the ad, bleeping out the word ‘forking’, following the original’s ban by the Ad Standards Board for being “inappropriate”.
The updated version now bleeps out the word “forking”.
A spokesperson from Youfoodz told Mumbrella: “We are currently running a modified version of the ad and are working closely with the Advertising Standards Bureau to determine our next steps”.
The spokesperson also told Mumbrella the previous version is no longer airing .
At the time of the ruling, the ad watchdog said: “The majority of the Board however noted that whilst most members of the community would not expect a child to actually say the word ‘fucking’ in a television advertisement, in the Board’s view the way the young boy says the word ‘forkin’’ makes it sound very close to the strong swear word it is clearly imitating”.
However, a spokeswoman for the ASB told Mumbrella it has already received 170 complaints about the updated ad, which it will be considering at its next meeting.
This company’s marketing is top notch, no doubt bleeping it is even worse and they get another round of publicity on the house!! Maybe the ASB should work on something that actually matters (like NBN speeds advertising) rather than a few words that sound like naughty words
I think the beeping out makes it even more obvious.
It’s forking worse!
There are only so many rounds of free publicity a company should take advantage of before they can expect to wear out their grace with the public. Whichever version you look at, Youfoodz are normalising juvenile potty-mouthing and I’m really tired of this kind of behaviour being seen as acceptable. Then the world complains when children exhibit entitled behaviours. You’ve got Scotty Cam calling a judge a bitch on The Block, and Youfoodz product placement plastered all over The Block, then you’ve got a kid channelling the more awful elements of Gordon Ramsay in a TV ad … all in prime time. The ad is memorable, yes, but it leaves a sour taste in the mouths of would-be or existing Youfoodz customers. Any company that pays a child to behave in an anti-social way, and capitalises on the publicity surrounding it should take a good look at itself and question its ethics.
Why is this country such a nanny-state? people need to calm the fork down.
I think some people are in need of a good forkin to release some built up tension.. then they really wouldn’t care about this
If anyone is happy for their seven year old child to come home from school swearing like Gordon Ramsey then endorse this ad. I think I know how most parents would react. Get it off the air.
I find your add disturbing using a child like that to be pretending to swear very offensive and so did my 10 year old it just shows desperation to sell you product it’s not funny and will not be buying your product
Seriously has the world lost its sense of humour
The ad is very clever and funny
Ironic that bleeping it out …..has actually made it sound like he’s swearing.
You people need to get real and worry about real problems. this is a fake problem and I am sick of this “journalism”.
Lame and outdated jokes from an older generation… make room for a fresh perspective, old farts..
