Zitcha restructures leadership team, appoints new group COO

Zitcha has appointed a new group chief operating officer as part of a wider leadership restructure.

Tony Karp joins the retail media platform in the role, where he will be responsible for Zitcha’s delivery and operations.

The appointment comes as Zitcha continues its global expansion, powered by the US$10 million (AU$15 million) in funding it raised in October last year.

Karp replaces former COO Jack Byrne, co-founder, who is stepping into the role of CEO across APAC.

Meanwhile, Troy-Townsend, also co-founder, will be group CEO after relocating to the US late last year, leading Zitcha’s international growth strategy.

“The addition of Tony to our global executive team comes at an important moment for Zitcha. We’re expanding in North America and other international markets, and we need the right structures in place to scale efficiently while staying close to our clients,” Townsend said in a release.

“His experience in driving transformation and growth in North America and Australia will be key to strengthening our delivery and enable Jack and the APAC team to build deep, local partnerships with retailers and brands.”

Karp was most recently North American president of Australian-founded digital gifting company Prezzee. There, he is reported to have delivered “rapid revenue and market growth” in the US, and launched the brand into Canada.

He also previously served as CEO of the company, and has held other executive roles at David Jones, Principal Financial Group, and Jones Lang LaSalle.

He described Zitcha as a “world-class” platform, adding that it has an “ambitious vision and an energised team that genuinely cares”.

I’m looking forward to scaling the operational foundations that will support Zitcha’s next phase of growth,” he said.

Karp is the latest “strategic move” for the retail media platform, which also recently appointed Jim Kane as VP sales, global, and Alberto Vergara as head of data and AI. It also welcomed senior advisors Debra Berman and Jonathan Waecker at the start of the year.

Zitcha is a partner of hospitality operator Australian Venue Co, as reported by Mumbrella earlier this year. AVC will use Zitcha to streamline and unify its off-site inventory management, planning, buying, and campaign operations.

The platform also signed a partnership with Adore Beauty earlier this year, and last month, it was selected to power Fraser Group’s new retail media network, Elevate.
