‘A fantastic step in the right direction’: Guide Dogs NSW/ACT announce digital accessibility workshops for inclusive content creation

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is set to launch a crucial workshop program designed to teach participants how to incorporate digital accessibility into their online content.
Rolling out from October 31 at the organisation’s office Sydney, the Boundless Workshop program supports half-day classes featuring Guide Dogs’ clients “provide context into the lived experience of inaccessible content and common challenges”.
Government, media companies, platform owners, brands, marketers and content creators are the target audience for the classes.
The workshops will also have Guide Dogs’ accessible content professionals teach participants practical skills to make overcoming barriers easier. At the same time, the skills will be put to the test with an accessible content session involving canines.
Ultimately, the workshops and Guide Dogs seeks to make the digital world more accessible to people living with blindness or low vision by negating barriers that challenge the community.
“We have a long way to go before we achieve a fully accessible digital world, but part of the reason is because many aren’t even aware of the barriers or issues to begin with,” Michael Apte, Guide Dgs NSW/ACT’s chief marketing officer, explained.
“These workshops are a fantastic step in the right direction to ensure more content can be accessed by people living with blindness or low vision and that accessibility will be a key consideration for anyone creating content or posting online moving forward.
“The workshop sessions will equip all those responsible for driving connection, engagement, and creating online experiences to shape a more inclusive digital world.”
The digital accessibility classes serve as the latest iteration of the organisation’s Boundless World Projects, and comes after the official release of its digital accessibility for social media resource.
