‘Absolutely iconic’: Acast and Casefile ink exclusive partnership

Popular award-winning crime podcast, Casefile True Crime, has entered into a deal with Acast to make the independent podcast organisation its “new exclusive ad sales, hosting and distribution partner”.

The partnership will add 80 million yearly listens to Acast, and allow Casefile to grow its audience while providing brand partners with the opportunity to connect with the show’s listeners at an international level.

Moving forward, Acast will take over sponsorship and ad management for the true crime show, freeing up the Casefile team to concentrate on producing content, according to its anonymous host who goes by Casey to fans.

“The Casefile team have had a great time working with Audioboom for the past few years and we are so grateful for their support with the podcast,” Casey said.

“Since starting as a side project in a spare room, Casefile has grown massively to reach new global audiences and we’re looking forward to joining the Acast Content Network to expand even further, both in Australia and internationally.

“Our main focus remains the Casefile community and we’re keen to continue spending the majority of our time researching cases and recording episodes, while Acast take on managing ads and sponsorships for the show.”

The move marks another notch in the working relationship between Acast and Casefile. Both parties collaborated to launch The Bakersfield Three podcast – a show that delves into the disappearances of two friends and the murder of another – in 2023.

When commenting on the new partnership, Acast Australia and New Zealand’s Creator Network director, Guy Scott-Wilson, praised Casefile on its accomplishments and expressed excitement on Acast being a part of the show’s continuing journey.

“Casefile is absolutely iconic. One of the biggest Australian podcasts and a globally recognisable brand in its own right,” Scott-Wilson enthused.

“For an independent podcast from Australia to achieve what it has over the last nine years is something we should all celebrate.

“We’re excited to be partnering with the team on their next chapter, helping them to continue growing their huge global audience and giving brand partners a chance to connect with their listeners across the world.”

From humble beginnings from the host’s living room in 2016, Casefile True Crime has gone on to accumulate more than “800 million downloads to date”, while securing a spot on the ‘Podcast of the Decade’ playlist on Spotify.

Considered “a mainstay in the Australian, UK and US charts within its first year”, Casefile came second in the Australian Podcast Ranker in September 2024, and also took first place in the February rankings of the same year. It hit number one in December 2023.

The show – which now also boasts a multi-continental team – is known for melding storytelling with in-depth research.

It also hosts the multi-million downloaded Casefile Presents – a platform introduced in 2019 designed “to grow audiences for existing podcasts alongside launching new projects and voices”.

New Casefile episodes are released each week via the show’s website, YouTube and on all major podcasting platforms.
