Campaign Review: Sam Mac’s missed opportunity and Demazin creates a division
Mumbrella invites the industry’s creatives and strategists to offer their views on the latest ad campaigns. This week: Host Havas’ Jon Austin and The Royals’ Annie Little give their views on Sam Mac’s love song for Xero, Demazin’s take on ‘Gloria’, and Nescafé’s look at quarantine coffee.
Brand: Xero
Campaign: A little love song
The verdict: A missed opportunity
Jon Austin, executive creative director at Host Havas, says:
Demazin – the latest ad that I quickly go to grab the remote, to turn sound off. So irritating and not only the singing but visually annoying. Can’t wait for the campaign to finish.
I’m shocked no one has picked up on how the Demazin ad encourages people to go to work sick. A mom, with a very sick family, sings about taking Demazin “when you’ve got work to go to”. In essence the ad is saying, if you are sick take Demazin and go to work. If this ad was launched in 2017 it would be annoying. But launched DURING A PANDEMIC it’s a shockingly bad message. If you are sick, or your entire family is sick don’t get hopped up on cold medicine and go to work!!!!
