Dancing With The Stars stumbles on debut, putting Ten behind the ABC

Ten’s attempt to take on Nine’s Married At First Sight has failed, as Dancing With The Stars attracted just 621,000 metro viewers on Monday night. The station was beaten by the ABC in main channel share.

The dance show attracted just over half the audience of Married At First Sight’s 1.205m, finishing 12th for the night behind ABC’s 7.30 and Australian Story. It also failed to make a dent in any of the key age demographics.


Despite the audience’s lukewarm reception to the show, Ten’s chief content officer Beverley McGarvey put a brave face to the OzTAM preliminary overnight metro ratings, saying: “The return of Dancing With The Stars last night was a return to spectacular live entertainment. Grant and Amanda and our new judges, Craig, Sharna and Tristan, did a wonderful job and our stars were brave and brilliant.

“It had a good start in the ratings – the show was number two across its time slot and lifted our 7.30pm time slot 35% compared to the same night last year. It also had high engagement across social.
